Our children are blessings. Sometimes I lose sight of what blessings they truly are.

Our Children are Incredible, Talented, and Unique

This weekend, my son competed in the junior region diving meet for this area of the country. Our diving team hosted the meet, so I was at the diving well all day for four straight days and was privileged to witness some phenomenal athletes.

It astounds me how these kids can twist, turn, and flip their bodies the way they do. They are coached by wonderful men and women who dedicate their time and effort to mold these kids into powerhouses of athletic grace and agility as well as fine young men and women. And these kids work hard. Beyond hard. Their dedication is incredible.

It's much the same with the sport of competitive gymnastics, in which my daughter competes. She does cartwheels and back-walkovers, on the balance beam, and combination roundoff, back-handsprings, back tucks on the floor like gravity doesn't apply to her. It flabbergasts me. My body never contorted that way, even when I was at my youngest and most agile and supple. And she trains fourteen hours a week, during the school year.

My other son is a tech whiz. I'm not a computer ignoramus, but he far surpasses me in IT knowledge. He finds computer technology fascinating, whereas I find it a necessary evil. I have to stay on my Ps and Qs with him,  sometimes need him to switch to lay speak to understand what he's talking about, and one day, may need my own specially crafted google alert just for him.

Our Children are Blessings

I say all of this because our children are the best of us. They are wondrous and amazing creations. I sometimes get too caught up in the day-to-day struggles of life and the raising of hormonal pre-teens that I forget to appreciate what blessings they are and what joy they bring to my life. They are talented, special, passionate, unique individuals. And I can't wait to have them all to myself for summer break.

Without them, my life wouldn't be nearly as fulfilling, and I would be missing half my heart. I am so very grateful to God for these blessings.

  1. Do I have to subscribe every time I read a blog, or am I once in, there to stay. IT and me are not close personal friends. I started coming into the 21st century only 15 years after the 20th departed.
As I have told you before, grandchildren are God’s reward for not killing your own when you were raising them. I’m so blessed that I let you, your sister and brother make it because all of your children are my greatest joy !
